Nexans Invests Over $40 Million in Canadian Operations Amid Electrification Surge

As the world increasingly electrifies, France-headquartered electrification leader Nexans is investing over $40 million into its Canadian operations, with its Fergus, Ontario plant playing a central role in scaling capabilities and building an integrated North American business.

The 270,000-square-foot Fergus plant, celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2026, is running at near maximum capacity across three shifts, with production clocking double-digit year-over-year growth in the first half of 2026. The plant employs over 200 people and produces cables for major customers across North America, with its products used in iconic Canadian projects including the CN Tower, Rogers Centre, Confederation Bridge, and Canadian navy frigates.

Key investments include:

  • A new large-capacity PVC compounder

  • New modern equipment, most expected to come online within 18 months

  • Expansion of the workforce while raising output

Nexans Canada President Dave King stated, "We feel we're in a super growth cycle," noting that the data center market is so large and consuming so much capacity that it is straining Canadian supply chains.

Nexans has also expanded its North American footprint through acquisitions, including Electro Cables (Trenton-based) in 2025 and Republic Wire (Ohio-based) earlier in 2026. The company reported 2025 sales of €6.1 billion (approximately $9.7 billion CAD) at standard metal prices, with a catalog of more than 750 products.

The Fergus plant also emphasizes sustainability, drawing from a stormwater pond for cooling—saving the municipality an estimated 130 million liters of water annually—and recycling PVC waste from cable casings into composite deck boards
