Xinrong Cable Deploys AI Vision Inspection for Fire-Resistant Cable Production
In July 2026, Sichuan Xinrong Cable Co., Ltd. , collaborating with the School of Mechanical Engineering at Chengdu Institute of Technology and Chengdu Saichuangli Technology Co., Ltd., successfully developed and deployed a fire-resistant cable AI vision inspection system at its production facility in Qingyang District, Chengdu.
Technical Challenge Overcome:
Fire-resistant cables feature a metal cylindrical threaded structure that creates severe reflection issues when illuminated by standard light sources, causing blurred images and missing critical information during manual or conventional equipment inspection. Additionally, welding defects manifest in various forms including pinholes, distortions, and particles, making comprehensive and precise detection challenging with conventional methods.
Solution:
The research team developed a proprietary optimized AI algorithm designed to handle various random defects. Through multiple rounds of testing and screening, a customized light source solution was adopted that adjusts light source angle, intensity, and illumination patterns to provide comprehensive fill-light scanning of the cable surface. This effectively avoids reflection interference from the metal cylindrical threaded structure, capturing high-definition images of key areas including cable bodies and welding joints.
The system operates automatically with these features:
Millisecond-level image analysis with real-time defect identification and automatic alerts
24/7 uninterrupted standardized, high-precision intelligent quality inspection
Detection accuracy exceeding 99% , matching production line speeds
Replaces manual visual inspection, eliminating issues of missed detection, inconsistent judgment standards, and false positives
General Engineer Qiao En noted that the mineral-insulated fire-resistant cables produced using this intelligent inspection system have been successfully deployed in subway rail transit projects in Shanghai and Jinan, demonstrating reliable product quality through practical engineering applications.
The company plans to extend the technology beyond welding defect detection to cover cable sheath appearance defects, structural precision, dimensional deviation, and eventually achieve full-category, all-process intelligent inspection coverage for wire and cable products.
