igus Receives Dry Cleanroom Certification for 238 High-Flex TPE Drag Chain Cables
In January 2026, igus announced that 238 of its halogen-free chainflex® TPE cables have been certified by the Fraunhofer IPA Institute for use in dry cleanrooms up to classes 4 and 5, making it the first supplier to achieve this certification for dry cleanroom applications.
Why This Matters:
Dry cleanrooms, which maintain relative humidity below 1%, are critical in lithium-ion battery manufacturing, semiconductor production, and other sensitive industrial processes. Many standard components fail quickly due to the extremely dry air, requiring frequent replacement.
Certification Highlights:
The certified TPE cables include control, bus, power, robot, servo, and measurement system cables
Tested first in igus's 5,500 sq. m in-house laboratory, then subjected to long-term testing at Fraunhofer IPA
Certified at the highest cleanliness levels 4 and 5
The halogen-free TPE jacket ensures low particle emission even under sustained mechanical stress in dry environments
Rainer Rössel, Head of chainflex Business Unit at igus, stated: "These are high-end TPE cables we have developed and tested specifically for use in drag chains. The certification ensures customers have reliable energy management solutions for battery production and semiconductor manufacturing, with a service life of up to four years."
All certified cables are in-stock catalog products, available from one meter with no cutting charges, minimum order fees, or packaging costs, and are backed by igus's four-year guarantee when used with the online service life calculator.
