Tampnet and Starboard Integrate Fibre Sensing into AI-Powered Maritime Platform

Source:Industrial Automation / Time:2026-08-13

Tampnet, the world's largest offshore high-capacity communications network operator, and Starboard Maritime Intelligence have unveiled the world's first operational integration of fibre-optic sensing into a live AI-powered maritime intelligence platform, aimed at strengthening protection of critical subsea infrastructure .

The new system combines Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) and State of Polarization (SoP) monitoring within Starboard's real-time operational platform, allowing operators to distinguish more effectively between genuine cable contact events and surrounding activity .

"This is an important step forward in how fibre sensing is operationalised," said Trent Fulcher, CEO of Starboard Maritime Intelligence. "It strengthens situational awareness while keeping the workflow simple and intuitive" .

The technology has gone live in Tampnet's testing environment, giving analysts a unified operational picture that merges fibre sensing data with AIS vessel tracking and inferred vessel movements. "With fibre sensing already deployed across most of our subsea network, our goal is to make it operationally useful from day one," said Anders Tysdal, chief infrastructure officer at Tampnet .
