Delta Linear Motor Encoder Configuration: CN5 Pulse Input and CN2 Communication

Source:Industrial Automation / Time:2026-08-19

For linear motor applications, Delta provides two encoder feedback connection options: CN5 for pulse-type encoders and CN2 for communication-type encoders .

Encoder Feedback Options:

  • CN5 (Pulse Input): Supports Hall sensor and pulse-type encoder connections

  • CN2 (Communication): Supports BiSS C, Mitutoyo, Endat2.2, Fagor, Tamagawa, and Nikon communication formats

Special Note: A3-L does not support BiSS C and Endat2.2 communication formats.

Hall Sensor and Pulse Encoder Configuration:
When using Hall sensors, thermistors, and pulse-type encoders simultaneously, a Y-cable must be made according to connector pin assignments, connecting the D-Sub 15-pin connector to the CN5 connector of the servo drive.

ASDA-Soft Configuration:

  • Position unit: μm

  • Speed unit: μm/s

  • Acceleration unit: ms (time for acceleration from 0 m/s to 5 m/s)

  • Parameter P1.037: Total moving inertia (kg)

  • Encoder feedback type: Pulse (CN5) or Communication (CN2)

These configuration options provide flexibility for various linear motor applications.
