The selection of the 12 Marie took place on January 31 at the Scuola Grande San Giovanni Evangelista . An eleven-member jury, chaired by Carnival Artistic Director Massimo Checchetto, selected the 12 young women who served as ambassadors of Venetian tradition throughout the Carnival . The Marie appeared in public spaces wearing sumptuous costumes, participating in parades and official events until February 17 . Applications were open until January 29.
