Ukraine Celebrates First Christmas on December 25
Ukraine celebrated Christmas on December 25 for the first time in 2026, jettisoning the traditional Orthodox date of January 7 as a snub to Moscow . President Volodymyr Zelensky said: "All Ukrainians are together. We all celebrate Christmas together. On the same date, as one big family, as one nation, as one united country" . The date change is part of moves since the invasion to remove traces of Russian and Soviet influence .
