Munich has introduced a ban on champagne showers – the practice of shaking and spraying sparkling wine inside the tents – calling it wasteful and out of character for a traditional folk festival . Sparklers remain permitted but only on the final evening of the festival, following a Swiss nightclub fire that killed 41 people . Authorities also rejected a proposal to ban patio heaters
