Macron's Final Bastille Day as President
This Bastille Day marked President Emmanuel Macron's final national day parade as president. He will step down in 2027 after a maximum two consecutive terms in office .
Significance:
Macron has used his presidency to boost defence spending and ramp up cooperation with allies .
He notably used the 2017 Bastille Day parade to wow newly inaugurated President Donald Trump during his first term .
Macron made a strong statement: "Yes, we cherish freedom and the rule of law. And yes, we stand ready to fight to defend them. Always, and at the cost of blood if necessary" .
The president also debuted a new all-electric presidential vehicle – a DS N°7 from DS Automobiles – for the parade .
