In March 2026, global cable leader Prysmian announced a partnership with mining and aluminum giant Rio Tinto to jointly advance the production of building wire using ELYSIS™-produced aluminum .

Technology and Sustainability Commitments:

  • ELYSIS™ technology eliminates all direct greenhouse gas emissions from the aluminum smelting process, with oxygen as its only by-product

  • This partnership validates the use of ELYSIS™ aluminum in wire and cable production, significantly reducing the carbon footprint of cable products

  • Prysmian has brought forward its Net Zero target from 2050 to 2035 and committed to achieving 55% of revenues from sustainability-linked solutions by 2028

Market Context:
The partnership specifically targets the rapidly growing data center market, which represented approximately 7% of total North American cable demand in 2025 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of approximately 17% between 2026 and 2030 . While ELYSIS™-produced aluminum remains in development and is not yet available in large production quantities, Prysmian remains committed to investing in sustainable technologies and innovations .

Srinivas Siripurapu, Chief Sustainability, R&D, and Innovation Officer at Prysmian, stated: "As we work toward our goal of reaching Net Zero by 2035, we recognize that our customers, particularly in the data center sector, share similar pledges. We are proud to provide sustainable solutions to customers who align with those values" .
